Your Toshiba notebook computer comes with software preinstalled on the Hard Drive. In the event you need to reinstall your software the following information can be used as a guideline to reconfigure your computer to its original factory setup.

** Important: to reconfigure your computer, you must have first transferred the original pre-installed software from your hard drive to blank diskettes through the Master Diskette Creator (MDC) procedure introduced on your computer screen the first time you turned on your computer. If you did not create these diskettes, please contact Toshiba Product Support at: (800) 999-4273.**

1. Install DOS

a. Note: if you already have DOS on your Toshiba notebook, place the DOS Install Diskette in the a: drive, type a:setup and then press the Enter key. If DOS has been erased from the hard drive, simply place the DOS Install Diskette in the floppy drive and reboot your Toshiba computer (Ctrl+Alt+Del).

MS-DOS will automatically install on your hard drive while prompting you for information. Simply choose the default settings and let DOS do the install in addition to prompting you for diskette changes. DOS will tell you when the installation is complete.

b. Remove the diskette from the floppy drive and insert the Toshiba Enhancements Disk. From the DOS prompt, type a:setup and press the Enter key. Files will then be copied onto your hard drive to aid in the activation of your Toshiba computer's special features.

c. Remove the diskette in your floppy drive and insert the Toshiba Companion Disk that came with your computer. Reboot your computer (Ctrl+Alt+Del). The Companion Disk will then install additional files to supplement your Toshiba notebook.

2. Install Windows

a. Remove any diskette from the floppy drive and insert the Windows 3.1 Disk 1/Setup diskette in your floppy drive and type a:setup and press Enter. Windows will now start to install to your hard drive and automatically prompt you as to when to insert the next diskette. The Microsoft Windows documentation contains complete instructions for running the Windows setup program. The setup program installs the Windows files, determines a configuration appropriate for your computer and then loads Windows.

3. Run Windows

a. From the C: prompt, type Win and hit the Enter key.

4. Load MaxTime

a. Put the Toshiba Companion Diskette in drive A:

b. Select File, Run in Program Manager

c. Type a:mtsetup and press Enter

5. Load the BallPoint with QuickPort Drivers

a. Put BallPoint with QuickPort drivers disk in drive A:

b. Select File, Run in Program Manager

c. Type a:setup and press Enter

6. Edit the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files

a. Run SYSEDIT

I. Select File, Run in Program Manager

II. Type \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSEDIT and press enter

b. Select the AUTOEXEC.BAT file

The standard AUTOEXEC.BAT file is as follows:

Make any necessary changes to match the above AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

c. Select the CONFIG.SYS file

The standard CONFIG.SYS file is as follows:

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS

DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS

DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE

DOS=HIGH,UMB

FILES=30

STACKS=9,256

Make any necessary changes to match the above CONFIG.SYS file.

d. Select File, Save from the SysEdit menu.

e. Select File, Exit from the SysEdit menu to exit System Editor.

7. Install the Toshiba Advanced Windows Display Driver.

Toshiba has provided advanced Microsoft Windows (R) display drivers dor the T1900, T4400(SXC & C), T4500, T4600, and T6400(SXC & DXC). These drivers provide, depending on the machine and driver selected, 256 color support, high resolution support and Windows graphics acceleration.

a. Run Windows and open the Program Manager window.

b. Choose the Windows Setup icon.

Windows displays the Setup dialog box.

c. Choose Change System Settings from the Options menu.

Setup opens the change System Settings dialog box.

d. If the Display list box isn't highlighted, press the tab key or use a pointing device to highlight it.

e. Press the down arrow key to scroll though the list of display drivers until Other is highlighted.

f. Press Enter.

Windows Setup Prompts you to insert the display driver diskette.

g. Insert the display driver diskette into the computer's internal diskette drive.

h. Make sure that the highlighted default path is a:\

i. Highlight Toshiba WIN 3.x model resolution colors, where x is the version of Windows (3.0 or 3.1) model is the model number of your computer, resolution is the desired screen resolution (high resolution drivers greater than 640x480 require an external monitor) and colors is the number of colors desired (16 or 256).

j. Press Enter.

Windows Setup may prompt you to insert the display driver diskette again. If it does, repeat step h.

8. Exit and restart Windows for all changes to take affect.

Your Toshiba computer should now be reconfigured to its original factory settings.
