Reconfiguration Guide
Your Toshiba notebook computer comes with software pre-installed on the hard drive. In the event you need to reinstall your software, the following information can be used as a guideline to configure your computer with all the supplied software.
Diskettes
To reconfigure your computer, you must have transferred the original pre-installed software from you hard drive to blank diskettes through the Master Disk Creator (MDC) procedure introduced on your computer screen the first time you turned on your computer.
To run the Master Disk Creator program from Windows click on the MDC icon in the Toshiba Utilities group; or, from MS-DOS type c:\img\mdc. Please see your Reference Manual for more information on the Master Disk Creator.
If you did not create these diskettes, and are unable to do so now, please contact the Diskette Fulfillment Center at 1-800- 276-3238.
Install MS-DOS and Toshiba MS-DOS Programs
Use the MS-DOS Setup Disk 1 you created with the MDC program to start your computer.
1Place the MS-DOS Setup Disk 1 in the floppy drive.
2Turn the computer on. If the computer is already on, restart it by pressing and holding Ctrl, Alt, and Del and releasing simultaneously (Ctrl + Alt + Del).
MS-DOS automatically installs on your hard drive while prompting you for information and diskette changes.
3When prompted for information, press Enter to choose the default settings and let MS-DOS do the install.
MS-DOS will tell you when the installation is complete.
Install Toshiba Special Enhancements
The MS-DOS enhancements aid in the activation of your Toshiba computer's special features.
1Remove the diskette from the floppy drive and insert the Toshiba Special Enhancements Disk.
2From the MS-DOS prompt (C:|>), type a:setup and press Enter.
Setup copies the Toshiba enhancements onto your hard drive.
3Follow the screen instructions to install the Toshiba files.
Setup copies the Toshiba MS-DOS enhancement files onto your hard drive.
Install Toshiba Companion Programs
1Remove the diskette from the floppy drive and insert the Toshiba Companion Disk that came with your computer or that you created with MDC.
2Reboot your computer by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time.
The installation program displays a welcome screen.
3Select Install Utilities and Files from the menu to install additional utilities and files to supplement your Toshiba notebook.
4Select Exit to DOS, remove the disk from your disk drive and reboot the computer by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time.
Install Windows and Windows Programs
The Microsoft Windows User's Guide contains complete instructions for running the Windows Setup program.
Run Windows Setup
1Remove any diskette from the floppy drive and insert the Windows Setup Disk 1.
2Type a:\setup and press Enter.
Setup installs the Windows files, automatically prompts you to insert subsequent diskettes, determines a configuration appropriate for your computer, and starts Windows.
Load MaxTime, Hardware Setup and Fn-esse
1If Windows is not running, from the C: prompt, type win and press Enter.
2Insert the Toshiba Windows Utilities diskette in drive A.
3Choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager.
Windows displays the Run dialog box.
4Type a:\setup in the Command Line field and click OK or press Enter.
5Confirm the path by pressing Enter again.
Load the AccuPoint Driver
1Insert the Logitech MouseWare diskette
2Choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager.
Windows displays the Run dialog box.
3Type a:\install and click OK or press Enter.
Load the Toshiba Card Manager Software
1Insert the Toshiba Card Manager diskette in drive A.
2Type a: and press Enter.
3Type install and press Enter.
4Press any key to continue.
5Press N, to indicate that the old version is not installed.
6Press Y, to install in the C:\PCMPLUS3 directory.
7Type C: and press Enter.
8Type CD\PCMPLUS3 and press Enter.
9Type PCMSETUP and press Enter.
10Press any key three times to continue.
11Highlight Quick Mode, and press Enter.
12Make sure that the Number of sockets is equal to two and press Enter.
13Highlight Yes and press Enter to use cards in Windows.
14Press Enter to use the default path for Windows.
15Highlight No and press Enter if you do not want to install support for Flash memory cards.
NOTE:PCMCIA Flash memory cards are different than standard memory cards.
16Highlight Yes and press Enter to install support for modems.
17Highlight COM2 and press Enter to choose the modem port.
18Highlight No and press Enter if you do not want to install support for ATA cards (PCMCIA hard drives).
19Press Enter without tagging anything.
20Press any key twice to continue.
21Highlight Yes and press Enter to save your changes.
PCMCIA support for a modem is now complete.
Edit CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT Files
The MS-DOS User's Guide contains more information about the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Follow these steps to check the entries in your files:
1If Windows is not running, from the C: prompt, type win and press Enter.
2Run SYSEDIT by selecting Run... from the File menu in Program Manager, typing sysedit and pressing Enter.
System Configuration Editor opens four configuration files.
3Select the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
The standard AUTOEXEC.BAT file is as follows:

NOTE: The $p$g in the PROMPT command must be in lower case.
5Select the CONFIG.SYS window.

6Make any necessary changes to match the CONFIG.SYS file shown above
7Choose Save from the File menu in SysEdit to save your changes to the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.
9Choose Exit from the File menu in SysEdit to exit System Editor.
Install the Toshiba Windows Advanced Display Driver
Toshiba has provided advanced Microsoft Windows display drivers for your T2400C series computer. These drivers provide high resolution support and Windows graphics acceleration. Follow these steps to load the driver for your computer:
1If Windows is not running, from the C: prompt, type win and press Enter.
2Choose the Windows Setup icon in the Main group.
Setup displays the Windows Setup dialog box.
3Choose Change System Settings from the Options menu.
Setup opens the Change System Settings dialog box.
4If the Display list box isn't highlighted, press the tab key or use the pointing device to highlight it.
5Press the down arrow key to scroll through the list of display drivers until Other is highlighted and press Enter.
Setup prompts you to insert the display driver diskette.
6Insert the Toshiba Windows Advanced Display Drivers diskette into the diskette drive.
7Make sure the highlighted default path is a:\ and click OK or
8Highlight Toshiba WIN 3.x model resolution colors, where resolution
is the desired screen resolution (high resolution drivers greater than 640x480 on the T2400C series require an external monitor) and colors is the number of colors desired (greater than 256 colors on the T2400CS require an external monitor). Press Enter.
9Press Enter or select OK.
Windows Setup may prompt you to insert the display driver diskette again. If so, repeat step seven.
10Restart Windows for all changes to take effect.
Install Online Help
1If Windows is not running, from the C: prompt, type win and press Enter.
2Remove any diskette from the floppy drive and insert the Online Reference Manual disk.
3Choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager.
Windows displays the Run dialog box.
4Type a:install in the Command Line and press Enter.
5When prompted for information, press Enter to accept the default settings.
Install the Microsoft Tools for Windows
1Exit Windows, if it is running. This can usually be done by pressing Alt + F4 repeatedly, until Windows says This will end your Windows session, and then pressing Enter.
2From the MS-DOS prompt type cd\dos and press Enter.
4Type setup /e and press Enter.
5Choose the default settings by pressing Enter.
6Reboot the computer by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.
Your Toshiba computer should now be reconfigured with all the supplied software.
Add Advanced Power Management Support to Windows
1Exit Windows, if it is running. This can usually be done by pressing Alt + F4 repeatedly, until Windows says This will end your Windows session, and then pressing Enter.
2Type c: and press Enter.
3Type cd\windows and press Enter.
4Type setup and press Enter.
5Highlight the first line, Computer, and press Enter.
6Highlight MS-DOS System with APM and press Enter.
7Press Enter to accept the change and press Enter again to use the current drive.
8Insert the appropriate disk when prompted and press Enter.
9When finished, restart Windows by typing win and pressing Enter.
NOTES
1There is no Toshiba Windows Bitmap.
2The Windows introductory screen does not say Toshiba, but Microsoft.
3Best results can be achieved if the hard disk is first reformatted.
4Some icons, such as the Windows tutorial, are missing from the Windows desktop. Windows does not need these icons to operate properly.
