Your Toshiba notebook computer comes with software pre-installed on the hard drive. In the event you need to reinstall your software, the following information can be used as a guideline to reconfigure your computer to its original factory setup.
NOTE:To reconfigure your computer, you must have first transferred the original pre-installed software from your hard drive to blank diskettes through the Master Diskette Creator (MDC). This procedure was introduced on your computer screen the first time you turned on your computer. If you did not create these diskettes, please contact Toshiba Product Support at: (800) 999-4273.
If MS-DOS is already on your Toshiba notebook computer, refer to the Reconfiguring MS-DOS section.
If MS-DOS has been erased from the hard drive, place the MS-DOS Install Diskette in the diskette drive and restart your computer (press Ctrl + Alt + Del).
MS-DOS automatically installs on your hard drive. Follow the instructions on the screen to choose the default settings.
1After MS-DOS is installed, remove the diskette from the diskette drive.
2Insert the Toshiba Enhancements disk into the diskette drive.
3From the MS-DOS prompt, type a:setup and press Enter.
Setup copies files to your hard drive that aid in the activation of your Toshiba computers special features.
4Remove the diskette from the diskette drive.
5Insert the Toshiba Companion Disk into the diskette drive.
This diskette came with your computer.
6Restart the computer (press Ctrl + Alt + Del).
The Companion Disk installs additional files to supplement your Toshiba notebook computer.
1Insert the diskette labeled Windows 3.1 Disk 1/Setup into the diskette drive.
2At the MS-DOS prompt, type a:\setup and press Enter.
3Insert additional diskettes when Windows Setup prompts you to.
The Windows Setup program installs the Windows files, determines a configuration appropriate for your computer, and loads Windows. For more information about Windows Setup, refer to the Microsoft Windows documentation that came with your computer.
1If Windows is not already running, type win and press Enter to start it now.
2Remove any diskette from the diskette drive and insert the diskette labeled Toshiba MaxTime.
3In the Program Manager window, choose Run from the File menu.
Windows displays the Run dialog box.
4Type a:\mtsetup and choose OK.
The MaxTime Setup program installs the MaxTime power management program on your computer.
1If Windows is not already running, type win and press Enter to start it now.
2Remove any diskette from the diskette drive and insert the diskette labeled BallPoint with QuickPort drivers.
3In the Program Manager window, choose Run from the File menu.
Windows displays the Run dialog box.
4Type a:\setup and choose OK.
The Setup program installs the drivers.
1If Windows is not already running, type win and press Enter to start it now.
2In the Program Manager window, choose Run from the File menu.
Windows displays the Run dialog box.
3Type \windows\system\sysedit and press Enter.
This command runs the SYSEDIT system configuration editor.
4Select the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
The standard AUTOEXEC.BAT file is as follows:

4Make any necessary changes to match the above AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
5Choose Save from the File menu.
6Select the CONFIG.SYS file.
The standard CONFIG.SYS file is as follows:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE
DOS=HIGH,UMA
FILES=30
STACKS=9,256
7Make any necessary changes to match the above CONFIG.SYS file.
8Choose Save from the File menu.
9Choose Exit from the File menu to exit SYSEDIT.
Toshiba has provided advanced Microsoft Windows display drivers for the T1900, T4400SXC, T4500, T4600, T6400SXC and the T6400DXC. These drivers provide, depending on the machine and driver selected, 256 color support, high resolution support, and Windows graphic acceleration.
1If Windows is not already running, type win and press Enter to start it now.
2Choose the Windows Setup icon from the Main program group.
Windows displays the Setup dialog box.
3Choose Change System Settings from the Options menu.
Setup opens the Change System Settings dialog box.
4If the Display list box isnt highlighted, press the tab key or use the pointing device to highlight it.
5Use the down arrow key to scroll through the list of display drivers.
6Highlight Other and press Enter.
Windows Setup prompts you to insert the display driver diskette.
7Insert the display drive diskette into the diskette drive.
8Make sure the highlighted default path is a:\.
9Highlight Toshiba WIN 3.x model resolution colors, where x is the version of Windows (3.0 or 3.1), model is the model number of your computer, resolution is the desired screen resolution (high resolution drivers greater than 640 x 480 require an external monitor) and colors is the number of colors desired (16 or 256).
10Press Enter.
Windows Setup may prompt you to insert the display driver diskette again. If it does, repeat step 8.
11Exit and restart Windows for your changes to take effect.
Your computer should now be reconfigured to its original factory settings.
