Problem / Issue: | Cleaning the Microsoft BallPoint Mouse
If you notice that the pointer does not move smoothly or that the Microsoft BallPoint mouse ball does not move freely, you should clean the mouse. |
Solution: | Microsoft recommends that to clean the BallPoint Mouse:
1.Turn your computer off. 2.Remove the Microsoft BallPoint mouse from the QuickPort connector on the system unit. 3.Remove the mouse-ball cover by rotating the retainer ring (on top of the Microsoft BallPoint mouse) counter-clockwise. 4.Turn the mouse upside-down. The ball should drop into your hand. If it doesn't, gently shake the mouse or tap it gently into the palm of your hand until the ball drops out of its socket. The inertia of the ball should carry the retainer ring away from the assembly and into your hand along with the ball. 5.Clean the ball and the retainer ring using a lint free cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). Wipe away dirt and lint from along the inside of the ball socket and rollers, and along the edges of the retainer. You can also blow gently to remove dirt and lint. If lint is trapped inside the socket or on the rollers, use a lint free cloth dipped in alcohol to loosen it. 6.Allow the area to dry completely. 7.Return the ball to its socket and install the retainer ring. 8.Turn the retainer ring clockwise to secure it. 9.Reattach the Microsoft BallPoint Mouse to the QuickPort connector. |
Additional Information: | WARNING: DO NOT USE WOOD ALCOHOL; it will damage the mouse ball. It is highly recommended that a lint free cloth be used. |
