PCMSetup - PCMSetup can be run by the user to change or add to their PCMCIA configurations. For example, to add support for a particular card or to partition an ATA card, Setup provides a user friendly DOS or Windows interface.
Card Support Library - TCM3 includes a card support library which is a drop down list of cards for the user to choose from when adding or deleting a card from his/her setup. Cards can easily be added to the library.
Dynamic Card Configuration - The ability to dynamically configure PC Cards offers a solution to one of the leading causes of incompatibility. Card configuration can be added or altered to provide access to cards previously incompatible.
PCMCIA Standard Compliance - Toshiba America Informations Systems, Inc. (TAIS) is a member of the PCMCIA standards committee and aggressive promoter of that standard, the Toshiba Card Manager is developed and ensured compliant with the latest PCMCIA specification. TAIS also actively participates in special interest groups under the auspices of the PCMCIA committee and participates in the development of these specifications.
All Card Types Supported - All major types of PC Cards currently on the market are supported by TCM3.
Flash Memory
ATA and rotating media hard disk cards
FAX/Modem cards
LAN/Network cards
Other I/O cards
PC Card readers/adapters
The Toshiba TCM3 Card Support List contains over 250 cards from leading manufacturers.
Power Management Interface - TCM3 offers new power management technology that is unsurpassed in managing system resources to achieve maximum battery life. TCM3 provides a seamless APM aware interface to power management. Additionally, TCM3 power manages rotating storage media cards such as ATA cards by spinning down the cards after certain, customizable periods of inactivity much like power management for a regular disk drive. The future of mobile computing is here and with it a whole new challenge in power management. TCM3 meets this technology challenge.
TCM3 Interface Provides Greatest Flexibility and ease of Use
TCM3 eliminates installation problems such as system resource conflicts with the intelligent TCMSETUP program. TCM3 provides the means for novice and experienced users to make full use of their PCMCIA hardware.
Multiple BOOT Configurations for DOS 6 - TCM3 under DOS 6.0 supports multiple boot configurations allowing the user to choose which configuration block to boot from. TCM3 will load specific drivers under specific configurations saving memory and reducing system resource conflicts.
Installs ONLY the Cards Owned/Used - Each PC card installed places additional demands on a system. By allowing the user to install only those cards needed, TCM3 limits demands on the system reducing potential resource conflicts and freeing up valuable memory for other applications or peripherals.
Quick or Advanced installation - TCM3 can be installed using default configurations suitable for the majority of situations or preferences for resources can be changed in an advanced installation. Complete TCM3 User Documentation as well as context sensitive help is available to assist in the installation and setup processes.
Solves PCMCIA Memory Conflicts - During installation, TCM3 verifies available memory regions and reserves the open regions for use by specific TCM3 drivers. This virtually eliminates potential memory conflicts with PCMCIA software allowing end-users to concentrate on their computing tasks without interruptions.
DOS and Windows Interface - TCM3 offers the flexibility of a DOS and Windows interface based on the users preference. The Windows interface acts as any other Windows program, setting up a separate program group and icons on the users Windows panel.
Launch Applications - TCM3 offers an exciting ease-of-use feature which allows specified programs to be automatically launched upon insertion of a specified card. Launch Fax software when inserting your FAX/Modem card or launch network software when inserting your ethernet card - controlling the associated program launch is completely in the hands of the end-user.
Toshiba Card Manager Acts as Information Patrol - An integrated Resource Manager performs two distinct functions. First, it manages and displays the resources used by TCM3 such as memory and interrupts. Second, it can change the current run time values for the allocation of some system resources. As a management and display utility, the Resource Manager will perform a system scan to check the current state of the system and matches the option with the state found.
PC Cards as Disk Drives - To efficiently manage the use of ATA type Cards which can take the place of internal disk drives, TCM3 has a built in partitioning feature which acts much like a DOS partitioning utility. ATA PC cards and other rotating disk and solid-state mass storage PC cards can be partitioned - essentially creating several accessible drives on one card. TCM3 will not destroy data when partitioning a card unless the card is reformatted. TCM3 supports up to 4 partitions per card and up to 4 ATA cards per system.
Memory Requirements - The Toshiba Card Manager requires only 448 bytes of conventional memory! Everything else can be loaded high. Following are minimum memory requirements for a standard install:
Default Install TCM364 Kbytes High & 448 bytes Conventional
ATA Support 10 Kbytes
Flash Card Support70 Kbytes
