TECHNICAL NOTE (96500)

The IBM Token Ring and IBM Ethernet PCMCIA adapters have been tested successfully in the T100X, T1900, T1910, T1950 series, T3300SL, T4500, T4600, T4700 and T6600C series.

IBM PCMCIA Token Ring

If one is installing Toshiba Card Manager 1.0 and wish to use EMM386.EXE in the CONFIG.SYS, please use these exclusions as parameters for memory optimization. This was tested by logging into a Novell 3.11 network by typing LSL, TOKEN, IPXODI, NETX. The following is a sample CONFIG.SYS with these parameters:

CONFIG.SYS (emm386 with NOEMS- IBM TR)

DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS

DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=C800-C8FF X=D100-DBFF

DOS=HIGH,UMB

FILES=30

[COMMON]

DEVICE=C:\PCMPLUS\PCMSS.EXE

DEVICE=C:\PCMPLUS\PCMCS.EXE /WAIT=20 /ADDR=C8 /IRQ=10 DEVICE=C:\PCMPLUS\PCMSCD.EXE /BEEP /COM=2 /RS=16

CONFIG.SYS (emm386 with RAM- IBM TR)

Same as above except ...

DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM FRAME=CC00 X=C800-C8FF X=D100-DBFF

This will give a warning message on boot-up but will still enable expanded memory. The warning message is as follows "Warning: Option ROM or RAM detected within page frame".

To install the IBM Version 1.0 enablers for the T100X, T1900, T1910, T1050 series, T4500, T4600, T4700 and T6600C please choose "NCR" from the installation menu. The NCR option supports true PCMCIA 2.01.

Token Ring 4Mbit (DEVICE=C:\POINTTR.SYS RS=4 SA)

Token Ring 16Mbit (DEVICE=C:\POINTTR.SYS RS=16 SA)

Ethernet (DEVICE=C:\POINTETH.SYS).

In the setup please set PCMCIA SLOT = PCMCIA.
