Summary: | T6600C/CD OS/2 Installation |
Date: | October 25, 1995 |
Product: | T6600C/CD |
Problem / Issue: | System hang during OS/2 Installation |
Solution: | As Listed |
Additional Information: | None |
OS/2 2.11 will lock up or hang when installing from CD on a T6600CD. The problem has to do with the CONFIG.SYS Adaptec driver (BASEDEV=AHA152X.ADD) and the Toshiba 3401 CD drive. The Adaptec driver needs to be modified to read:
BASEDEV=AHA152X.ADD /!SN
The OS/2 Diskette 1 for CD-ROM needs to have its CONFIG.SYS modified to start the installation. First make a DISKCOPY of the disk and then modify its CONFIG.SYS file for use in installation. Once the installation gets to a point where it reads:
"The hard disk preparation is complete. The next step will be OS/2 system configuration.
Remove the diskette from the diskette drive.
Press the Enter key to start OS/2 configuration".
The system will bring up the OS/2 logo screen with the message "Loading, please wait..." Then the computer will lock up or hang. This time you need to modify the CONFIG.SYS (See below) on C:\.
There should be two lines that begin with BASEDEV=AHA152X.ADD. Modify the first line to include the /!SN parameter and delete the second line. Then reboot the computer. When installation is complete it will read:
"OS/2 Setup and Installation is complete.
Press Enter to restart your system".
After pressing Enter, the system restarts and will again bring up the OS/2 logo screen with the message "Loading, please wait..." and the computer will then lock up or hang. Again, you need to modify the CONFIG.SYS on C:\. There should be two lines that begin with BASEDEV=AHA152X.ADD. Modify the first line to include the /!SN parameter and delete the second line. Then reboot the computer.
·To modify the CONFIG.SYS file on a system that has been formatted as HPFS, you will have to boot the system with the OS/2 Installation Diskette for CD-ROM. When prompted, remove the diskette and insert the OS/2 Diskette 1 for CD-ROM and then press Enter. Press the Esc key when you get to the Welcome to OS/2 screen. Copy C:\CONFIG.SYS onto a DOS formatted diskette and modify the CONFIG.SYS file using another computer with either an OS/2 or DOS editor. Then copy the file back to C:\ on the T6600CD and reboot the system.
·To modify the CONFIG.SYS file on a system that has been formatted as FAT, boot the system with a DOS System disk. The C:\CONFIG.SYS can then be edited with a DOS editor or it can be copied onto a DOS formatted diskette and modified another computer with either an OS/2 or DOS editor.
NOTE:
OS/2 recognizes the 504/510MB HDD on the T6600CD as too large for its FDISK to partition. It will cause the installation of OS/2 to stop with an explanation that there was a problem with OS/2's FDISK creating a partition. So you will want to use TSETUP to set the HDD size to 504MB and then use DOS's FDISK to partition the HDD to its maximum partition size and then run the OS/2 installation.
