Novel Technical Note(98508)

Summary: Novell Netware Requester OS/2 WARP 3 with PCMCIA Ethernet

Note: This setup was tested on a T2150 with IBM OS/2 WARP V3 and a Noteworthy PCMCIA Ethernet Card.

System Requirements:

5MB (or greater) of memory

OS/2 WARP 3 disks or CD-ROM

ETENG201.EXE (Ethernet Card Drivers)

Netware Requester OS/2 2.1 (available from Novell)

Install OS/2 WARP with PCMCIA support:

- If OS/2 WARP is already installed but without PCMCIA support, use 'SELECTIVE INSTALL' to add the PCMCIA drivers.

NOTE: The following line should be in the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file:

BASEDEV=x:PCMCIA.SYS

DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VPCMCIA.SYS

(where x is the OS/2 drive letter)

Verify OS/2 Socket Services:

- Edit the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file and check for the following line:

BASEDEV=IBM2TOS1.SYS /s0=2 /c0=11

** Note - /s0=X (X=# of slots)

/c0=X (X=Interrupt)

5) Save the CONFIG.SYS, shutdown OS/2 Warp and reboot the computer

Install Novell Netware Requester for OS/2:

1) Locate the five Netware Requester diskettes.

2) Insert diskette #1. From an OS/2 Window, change directories to the Workstation

Install disk (A:), type 'INSTALL' and press ENTER.

3) The following windows will appear (in order):

"Netware Requester Installation Utility"

- select Installation/'Requester On Workstation'

'Set Target Directory'

- select the defaults

'Requester Installation'

- select the defaults

'Step 1 - Choose the ODI LAN Driver'

- type in PCMDMCS.SYS

'Step 2 - Choose Netware Support for DOS and Windows Applications'

- set IPX Support = ON

- set Default NetWare Shell Support = GLOBAL

'Step 3 - Choose Optinal Protocols'

- these are optional, you can select SXP and/or NetBIOS emulation if you like

'Save Changes to CONFIG.SYS'

- accept the default

'Copy ODI LAN Driver Files'

- accept defaults

'Copy Requester Files'

- accept defaults

- The NetWare files will now copy into the appropriate directory.

- The CONFIG.SYS will be automatically edited

4) Exit out of the NetWare installation Utility window

********** DO NOT REBOOT ************

5) Get the file ETENG201.EXE file from the Toshiba BBS (714) 837-4408

6) Extract the file to a high density (1.44MB) diskette by typing the following:

ETENG201 A: <enter>

7) Follow the directions on the screen the create the ethernet driver diskette.

Installing IBM Ethernet Novell OS/2 PCMCIA Enablers:

8) From an OS/2 window, type A: <enter> and type INSTALL

9) Select A: as the source drive

10) In the 'INSTALLATION OPTIONS' window select:

'Install IBM Ethernet Credit Card Files for Novell (OS/2)'

11) the next screen will prompt you for the Target drive, select the OS/2 drive (the drive you installed NETWARE)

12) press enter until you get to the screen:

13) Select the appropriate frame type: ie. 1 (803.3 for Netware V3.11)

14) The next screen asks you for a Network Adapter Address

- select a VALID network address

15) The installation should be complete, exit, show-down, and reboot the system

Notes: - Server Utilities must be installed by someone with Supervisor Access.

- Follow installation instructions provided with OS/2 Netware Requester Server Utilities Installation

- OS/2 Netware Requester has seperate Startup and Login Scripts from Netware for DOS
